Notes |
- born about 1751 in Hamiltonban, York Co., PA. He died between 1820 and 1827 in Jonesboro, Washington Co., TN. John McCracken's will was abstracted by Bettie B. Davis. He is found in the Tax List of 1799 Washington Co., TN Capt. Duncan's Company.3 John McCracken is listed as owning 150 acres of land in 1799.
Washington Co. TN records reflect a 16 Jan 1799 sale of a tract of land by Andrew McBath to John McCracken, said land being on the Little Limestone. A deed of sale dated 1 May 1807 shows the land on the Little Limestone was sold by John McCracken, Sr. to John McCracken, Jr.He was recorded in Washington Co., TN (Book A #214). Addendux dated2Feb 1820 Notes for JOHN MCCRACKEN from Steve McCracken: John may have fought in the Revolutionary War. I don't have his service recordsto verify this yet. John apparently became an attorney at law. Records indicate John had a tavern license to sell beer and cider in Hamiltonbann Twp, York County. John and his family moved to Tennessee inthe 1790s. In Tennessee, he was referred to as "John Sr." He owneda farm on Little Limestone Creek, and town lots in Jonesborough, TN.
